Badminton was initially played around the beach sides as a n entertaining game, bur later it was played in the international level among different countries. It was played by the British military Officers in British India during 1800. This game resembles the ball badminton which is played in Tamil Nadu and Hanets uki which is played in Japan. Many famous Indian champions who has made India proud like- Prakash Padukone, Saina Nehwal, Pullela Gopichand, Chetan Anand and many more as the list goes on.

5th rank for Saina Nehwal
Badminton world federation announced that Saina Nehwal has secured the 5th position in the world ranking. Saina was the first Indian to secure the firstto secure the first place but could not last long due to her injuries. Later she Moved to the 6th rank, but now she sticking on with her 5th position in the world ranking. She secured the bronze medal in the Olympics.
In the AustralianOpen Series which was held last month gained her some points which helped her in securing the 5th place. P.V. Sindhu is another Indian player who has secured the 10thrank from many months. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa could not shine much and she secured the 20th rank in the woman doubles Badminton Match.
Australian open won by Saina
Hyundai Motor India Ltd honoured the champion Saina by gifting her Creta, the 1stanniversaryedition of Indian car of the year. It was gifted to her on the occasion of winning the Australian open championship which was held in Sydney during the time of June.
She also stated that she will continue to strive hard in her career and make the nation proud by her excellent gaming skills in the future years. She has been awarded the Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Shri, Arjuna award and the Padma Bhushan.
Jayaramin US Open Grand Prix semis
Ajay Jayaram the only Indian survivorwho entered the semi finals of US Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton tournament. He is the only hope who as all the other shuttlers were knocked out. The other shuttlers failed to have a firm stand in the match as Anand Pawar lost against Jayaram in the men singles. It just took Jayaram only 30mimutes to edge past Pawarin their quarter final match who ranked 93 in the world ranking.
In the woman doubles Poorvisha and Meghana also failed to Stand back against Paula Lynn Obanana and Eva Lee.
Jayaram couldn’t make it up to the finals
Ajay Jayaram lost against KantaT suneyama Japan player in the men’ssinglein the US Open. He lost against him in the semi finals of Grand Prix Gold batminton tournament. He ranked 22nd in the world ranking but could not beat his opponent which was held at Los Angeles Badminton club.
The 28 year old Indian was unable to withstand Tsuneyama, initially Jayaram played well against him but later it was hard to him as there was 10 score difference between them. So unfortunately the Indian player could not reach the finals.
Four Indian players reaches US Open quarters
Indian players- Ajay Jayaram, Anand Pawar, Ashwini Ponnappa and Meghana Jakkampudi reached the US open quarters. Jayaran and Anandwon the men’s single match to enter the US Open Grand Prix Gold. But unfortunately H. S. Prannoy, B. Sai Praneeth, Pratul Joshi and Tanvi could not make it up for the semi finals.
Jayaram took 35 minutes to beat his Portugal opponent Pedro Martins and Pawar won against Joshi in the men’s single. Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha Ram took over Ariel Lee and Sydney Lee very easily in the woman’s double in just 18 minutes.
