Continuing the legacy of his real father he continued to play basketball. In his final year, he won the state championship for Robert G. Cole High School with a massive victory of 68-1, a record-breaking score during the season of 1989. After his high school, he went to Louisiana State University where he was awarded the Sec player of the year twice during his studies. He also achieved the Player of the year in his college. To pursue his NBA career he had to leave his college in the middle but he completed it later.
The first team he joined was Orlando Magic in 1992. He was stuck to the team for the next 4 years. During the first week of his NBA career, he was awarded the Player of the week; he is the sole person who had such a great debut week in NBA. With an average of 23.4 points in his rookie year, he became the Rookie of the year equalling Michael Jordan’s record. After the Orlando Magic, he was a part of Los Angeles Lakers in 1996 with a 7-year contract for 121 million U.S. dollars.
